Florence, Colorado has been our home for the last two years. The shop we purchased from CTC Trucking in 2014 is located in the City limits, but just far enough outside of town where we have room to operate our daily activities and not feel the cramped pressure that can come with being in a larger city. We are located just a few minutes off Highway 50 so it does not take long to get ourselves on and off a highway that connects Eastern Colorado to Western Colorado.

Recently, our organization purchased a gravel pit that happens to be located just a stone’s throw from where our current facility is located. The gravel pit has been in existence for several years and is a well-known and established pit for producing some of the region’s most colorful round river rock. Langston Concrete Inc. has not owned the gravel pit very long, but so far we have had existing customers travel as far as Mississippi, Texas, and Northern Nebraska to purchase the colorful Colorado river rock the pit produces.

One of the biggest obstacles to overcome at the pit was the clean-up and organization of what was already there. The pit had seen better days, but we saw it as a ‘diamond in the rough’ and quickly began revitalizing what once was into what it will become in the future.

We took over operations of the equipment and process for producing the landscape rock and quickly discovered the weak points in not only the equipment, but customer satisfaction as well. Our owner, Mike Langston, has taken it upon himself to personally make sure the pit produces a great product and operates smoothly. We are still offering nearly all the same landscape rock the pit produced before, but are working on figuring out how to produce it more efficiently as well as ensuring the end users are getting a great product.

Some of the additional products are now offering include an array of crushed rock. Before, everything that left the pit was simply screened. Langston Concrete Inc. mobilized its crushing spread into the pit in early 2016 and began crushing to produce a class 6 road base. Much to our surprise, the pit has produced an excellent product. The road base hit the CDOT Standard Specification for Class 6 Road Base right down the middle. We are also offering Class 5 road base as well as recycled concrete and recycled asphalt. We are excited about offering these materials and are eager to get them into the product line and off to whomever may have a need for them.

The addition of these materials out of the pit will give us depth in the market and also give us the ability to start using our own aggregates on our own projects we bid on as a concrete construction company.
